A. Exam Details:
The Certified Nurse Assistant State Examination consists of two areas - Written and Skills.

- Written - Oral Written
Online Written Exam:
- There will be a total of 70 multiple-choice questions.
- Maximum hours to complete the exam: 2 hours
- 15-minute warning time to complete the exam will be communicated by the test evaluator.
Online Written-Oral Examination:
For applicants who elect the online ORAL WRITTEN exam, the applicant must bring their own headphones. An additional $15 fee is added to the application fees.
Skills Evaluation Exam
- The exam is 4-6 hours. Please plan accordingly.
- Be prepared to complete and test on five (5) different skills.
- The "hand washing" skill will be on all exams.
- The student will have 30 minutes to complete the exam.
- There are 22 skills outlined in the Candidate Handbook. The skills that are stated "Skills Not Tested" are not included in the final grading score.
- A step that is highlighted in bold is called a Critical Element Step. If you do not perform the critical element step correctly, you will fail the exam.
B. Examination Fees
Fees submitted to the Regional Center are non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment is required at the time of the test date and location booking.
Initial Testing
To schedule your initial or 1st attempt examination, the candidate must schedule for both the Written Examination (or Audio), and the Skills Evaluation.

All payments are sent directly to the Regional Testing Center, not Valley School of Nursing.

C. Canceling/Rescheduling
To cancel and/or reschedule your Nurse Assistant Examination, go to your RTC account. An administrative fee for rebooking of $25 in addition to the cost of the exam will be applied to all rescheduled exams after the cancellation date, canceled, and missed exams (no-shows).
For applicants who canceled their testing dates in 2024, you must register using the new RTC registration system, including the current fee schedule.
The applicant may cancel and/or select a new test date, time, or location within 3 business days before the original test date in the new RTC registration system.
Refunds
All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable after payment is completed.
Absence Policy
If the candidate has registered for the Nurse Assistant Examination and paid the required fee but fails to appear for the test or does not bring the necessary documentation to the test site, the payment is nonrefundable. The candidate will be charged a rescheduling or service charge plus the cost of the examination for the new test date.
A No-Show is not considered an attempt on the Nursing Assistant Exam.
Weather Emergencies
The Nurse Assistant Examination will only be delayed or canceled due to severe weather or natural disasters that deem the test center as inaccessible or unsafe. If RTC cancels an examination, the candidate will be rescheduled for the next available testing date and location at no additional charge.
D. Testing Day:
Check-in
Please arrive at the testing center 1 hour before the scheduled start time. Plan to spend the entire day completing the examination.
Late Arrivals
The candidate who arrived late for their test appointment will not be allowed to sit for the examination. The candidate will need to reschedule their examination. Testing fees are non-refundable. Rebooking service fees are applicable for rescheduling the examination.

Required Items for Examination:
Each candidate must bring the following items to sit for the examination:
- A valid government-issued photo ID (state driver's license, state ID, military ID, or passport is accepted as a form of identification. Photocopies and receipts are not accepted.)
- Registration confirmation email with Application #
- Face mask
- Any surgical face mask is accepted.
- Nose and mouth must be fully covered.
* The applicant will not be admitted into the testing area if they fail to bring the items listed above or if their name does not match their identification.
E. Exam Results:
Results/score reports will not be provided on the testing day.
The Nursing Assistant Evaluator cannot provide information about your Score Report.
Exam results will be available to the candidate in your RTC account within 3-4 business days.
